What is Cross Country? :
 

  • Cross-country is a team sport in which both boys and girls will compete at the varsity, and junior varsity levels, while all being members of the same team. Boys and girls do compete in separate races.
  • Cross-country races are generally 5000 meters (3.1 miles) for the boy and 4,000 meters (2.5 miles) for the girls and take place over a variety of terrain.
  • The training for cross-country is demanding requiring discipline & commitment that includes running, a variety of stretching, drills, and proper nutrition.

Team Policies:  

Paperwork: 

•· SHS physical  & Emergency Care Card  * once practice officially starts

•· Extra-Curricular Participation Form - Available in the Activities Office.

•· Submit Physical Forms & Emergency Care Cards to the Activities Office. 

Attendance:

  • Practice is Mandatory.
  • The team practices after school (once school starts) from 3:45 to 5:30 pm and on some Saturdays.
    • If an athlete misses practice during any week of a meet then his or her entry into that week's meet/s is at the coach's discretion.
    • Any athlete showing a tendency towards absences may be dismissed from the team at the coaches' discretion

Summer Conditioning

  • We will meet at 7AM starting June 20th at the High School Track
  • We will test / time trial during the second week of practice to determine a starting point for team members. Time trial distance will be 1 mile

Sportsmanship & Conduct (once the season begins)

  • Your attendance is mandatory and you will be expected to be a committed mature athlete regardless of your year in school and/or status on the team.
  • Athletes will treat teammates, coaching staff and opposing teams with respect and consideration.
  • Athletes will express concerns regarding injuries, competition, workouts or any issues regarding the team in a mature manner. 

Required Equipment:

  • Everyday:
    1.running specific shoes (i.e. shoes used only for practice)
    2. Athletic shorts / shirts
    3. Water bottle
  • When weather conditions dictate:
    1. Sweatshirt / Long sleeve shirt
    2. Raingear
    3. Long pants suitable for running (no jeans)
  • Optional:
    1. Digital watch
    2. Racing flats / shoes

Camp Info :

With various scheduling conflicts the best date for camp looks to be July 19th - 21st. Camp will once again be held at Fort Robinson State Park.
