Below I have listed a brief description of each of the courses offered in my classroom. |
![]() Applied Mathematics: This class is open to students in 9th and 10th grade. This course is a set of modular learning materials designed to help high school vocational students and others develop and refine job-related mathematics skills. The overall course included materials that focus on arithmetic operations, problem solving techniques, estimation of answers, measurement skills, geometry, data handling, simple statistics and the use of algebraic formulas to solve problems. Though the course includes some materials found in the traditional areas of arithmetic, geometry, algebra and simple trigonometry, the emphasis remains on the ability to understand and apply functional mathematics to solve problems in the world of work. |
![]() Pre-Algebra: This course is designed to bridge the gap between arithmetic and algebra. It reviews key arithmetic concepts and combines them with new algebraic concepts to give the student a solid background for Algebra I. Textbooks and other supplemental materials will be used to provide a variety of examples and applications of key concepts. There will be approximately 3-4 hours of homework each week. |
![]() Algebra II: This course is designed to relate and apply algebraic concepts to geometry, data analysis, probability and discrete mathematics. The course incorporates graphing calculators and computer software activities to explore the ideas and methods from graphic, numeric and symbolic perspectives. Algebra II is recommended for all college bound students. The prerequisite for this course is Algebra I, and there will be approximately 3-4 hours of homework each week. |
