Sidney Public Schools Superintendent - Jay Ehler
Welcome to the Sidney Public School District in Sidney, Nebraska. We are proud that our students consistently score well on standardized tests and that our schools are recognized as exceptional education hubs. Through Nebraska’s accountability system (AQuESTT) SPS is rated a “great” school. This is determined not only by test scores, but also through an Evidence Based Analysis (EBA) that focuses on things like community partnerships, college and career readiness, building effective educators and providing access to educational opportunities.
Quality teaching and exceptional learning are the focus of our enterprise. We know that by making good sound curriculum decisions and providing the support our teachers need we have developed a learning environment of the highest quality. Sidney’s instructional model is based on sound lesson design, research-based instructional strategies and explicit direct instruction that engages all students.
21st Century Education is infused with more and more technology challenging us to provide hands on exposure to a variety of software and hardware. SPS is a Google school that has recently underwent a significant upgrade to our technology infrastructure. Classrooms are filled with Smartboards, projectors, smart response systems and Chromebook carts that allow plenty of hands on opportunities for students and instructional tools for teachers. Beginning in 2018, SPS adopted a 1:1 Chromebook program in grades 5-12. Each student gets a HP 14" Chromebook, case, and charger.
